Writing Contest Guidelines
Win $1000 USD
1. Submit a poem or short story of 3,000 words or less, as a New Topic, to the $1,000.00 Writing Contest Entries Forum. There are no entry fees. You must first Register then Login to view or submit to this contest forum. Once you are in the $1,000.00 Writing Contest Entries Forum, to submit your contest entry, you must scroll to the bottom and click Post New Topic. You must use HTML to italicize or bold words, and the like. If you are unfamiliar with HTML, or are otherwise unsatisfied with the formatting of your entry, please email me your story with a request that I properly format it for you. Alternatively, if you simply find the process of entering (or properly entering) your submission too difficult, email me your story and I will post it/fix it for you.
2. Follow the rules as set forth in the Forums Terms and Conditions.
3. A 1st-place $1,000.00 USD winner will be chosen from submissions within 6 weeks of the 50th entry, and the submission deadline will be 4 weeks after the 50th entry is made. The 1st-place $1,000.00 winner's submission will be published on the home page of this site for 2 months, at the winner's sole discretion. Johnny Wraith t-shirts, or an equivalent prize, will be awarded to the 2nd and 3rd place winners (but if Johnny fails to get his t-shirts designed and printed in time, he reserves the right to alternatively award the 2nd and 3rd place winners something random, of equivalent value).
4. Johnny and Chris Miller will serve as the judge panel, and a written review will be posted to support the chosen winning entries.
5. You must own and be the author of any poem or short story submitted to this contest.
6. Once you have submitted a short story or poem to this contest, you cannot edit it (By "edit" I mean changing the substance of the story or poem. You are free to re-format your story if you don't properly enter your paragraphs, spacing, italics, bolding, or equivalent the first time you hit Save.) However, you are free to seek review and criticism of your short story or poem, and edit or rewrite it as much as you'd like, in any other non-contest Forum, before submission to this contest.
7. You may only submit one short story or poem to this contest, but you may submit the same short story or poem to multiple contests. However, once you have won any contest with a particular short story or poem, that short story or poem is disqualified from all other contests.
8. Johnny reserves the right to modify these Submission Guidelines as needed, in his subjective discretion, but he will not, in any case, reduce or change the $1,000.00 USD 1st-place cash prize.
9. Judges may not enter this contest or comment on contest entries until judgment is given.
Though these Guidelines prohibit an author from changing the substance of a short story or poem once submitted to any contest, comments on and critiques of competing short stories and poems are encouraged.
